Building Systems
Style and type of construction

We are specialist designers / creators of garden buildings used for many purposes. Our range includes different styles and different building systems. We can help you find the very best proposal to suit your requirement, purpose and budget. Experience tells us each client has specific requirements, every site is different in access, size and landscape and no standard building is perfect for all. Having designed, constructed, supplied and installed hundreds of kits and complete projects we are able to advise you on a great solution.

Read our advice on garden building and planning issues. Send us email us with a brief description of your project  noella@aarco.co.uk or call us on 01244 679502. If you have seen a building somewhere else on the web with design and specification you like, let us know - we welcome the opportunity to provide you with a very competitive quotation.

Hip roof studio with georgian windows - home to a PR business   Inside a flat roof office with who's shirt ? on the wall

Inside a gabled roof interlocking cabin with vinyl floor    Flat roof        Hip roof from side        Gabled roof

(There are only three different roof designs - flat/pent roof, hip roof and gabled roof)

How will the new building project look in your garden when complete?                  Great building but not sure about the landscape yet?

Is it rustic or modern, contemporary or traditional the picture here is just about as contemporary as I could find? Will it suit the landscape, will it fit the purpose and comply with any planning restrictions? Will it fulfill the purpose in floor space height and roof shape? The most influential aspects of style are materials, shape, roof type and window / door design.

Building Systems

The building systems commonly used for garden buildings are:

  • Timber frame (a rigid wooden frame forms the structure and shape of the building)

  • Structural insulated panels "SIP's" (The wall, floor and roof panels form the structure and provide insulation in pre-formed units)

  • Interlocking log cabin construction  (The walls are made from pre-cut boards which interlock requiring no further fixings)

This table explains the main features and benefits of each system.

System Cost Ease of construction Insulation properties Design Flexibility Style Options
Timber Frame Range of cost depending on specification When supplied in kit form easy and quick Variable to requirement / specification The most flexible can be single skin or clad on inside and outside All Styles
SIP's Most Expensive Heavy / Specialist but can be fast Exceptional Always requires internal and external cladding All Styles
Interlocking system Can be cheapest Simple and fast DIY system Roof and floor insulation only can be installed Kits of standard design can be modified Rustic / Cabin Style
